Binary: Peace vs. Chaos

Throughout the commercial, the inside of the train is very peaceful. The music adds to the peacefulness and gives the viewers a sense of calm. However, on the outside of the train, the images shown are chaotic. The bulls that are running may give a sort of panic in real life, but with the peacefulness already instilled in the train, panic doesn't come. The image of the city is chaotic as well. There are adults and children running around in disorder, again giving off the chaotic feeling. The advertisement also tends to go back to the actual image of the outside of the train, which is also peaceful. The colors are bland both inside and outside of the train but once the television displays an image, it's full of color and excitement.
Without the binary of peace versus chaos in this commercial, there would be no effect. The differences in the two allow one another to stand out. If the train on the inside was as chaotic as the outside, there would be things and people all over. The music would also throw things off, as it is very calm music. If everything in the picture was peaceful, the audience may just want to go to sleep. With the inside of the train being peaceful and the "outside" being chaotic, the different feelings are more prominent.

  1. I think this is specific and clear interpretation. I wasn't clear in class peace and chaos mentioned since I thought running bulls can be considered as a peace of nature and the child in market (which seem like part of India) has peaceful and happy face as well. However, after read your interpretation I could think again how they could be interact and make an effect. What I think here is, can be slightly different from your point of view, the eyes of bull and happy face of the child make connection between Peace and Chaos so make an effect.
